Description
Writing / Grades 6-8 / Period 2 / MJH / 1T-2T-3T
This course will seek to review the stylistic writing techniques previously taught in Beginning Writing, and then expand the student’s writing toolbox primarily through The Lost Tools of Writing curriculum.
The first trimester will focus on developing strong paragraph construction. Students will learn to create keyword outlines, compose from these outlines, and implement both adjective and adverbial clauses along with well-chosen verbs, adverbs, and adjectives. During the second and third trimesters, we will concentrate on developing cogent thesis statements, crafting compelling arguments supported by evidence, and refining the student’ ability to present ideas logically through clear and effective writing.
This course will consist of both reading and writing assignments. A letter grade will be assigned at the end of each trimester.
