Zoology 1 Flying Creatures
1st Trimester
Exploring Creation with Zoology 1: Flying Creatures of the Fifth Day (www.apologia.com) is an introduction to Zoology, with an emphasis on Birds, Bats and Flying Insects. The first trimester introduces Zoology, the benefits of birds and bird watching, and bird biology. We will start a Birders Life List. There will be about two hours of homework per week, to include reading from the text and answering questions from the text and classroom demonstrations. Grades will be pass/fail. Students will need a notebook for handouts and lab work.

2nd Trimester
Exploring Creation with Zoology 1: Flying Creatures of the Fifth Day (www.apologia.com) The second trimester continues the study of flying creatures with lessons on bird behavior, followed by a section on flying mammals and reptiles. We will have our first look at flying insects and insect classification, and insect life cycles. There will be about two hours of homework per week, to include reading from the text, and answering questions from the text and classroom demonstrations. Grades will be pass/fail. Students will need a notebook for handouts and lab work.
3rd Trimester
Exploring Creation with Zoology 1: Flying Creatures of the Fifth Day (www.apologia.com) will conclude with an in-depth study of insects, including social insects, beetles, flies, true bugs, and butterflies. We will explore many interesting insects and some of their behaviors, including swarming and migration. There will be about two hours of homework per week, to include reading from the text, and answering questions from the text and classroom demonstrations. Grades will be pass/fail. Students will need a notebook for handouts and lab work.
