Beginning Writing
Writing / Grades 3 – 5 / Period 3 / MJH / 1T-2T-3T
This course will seek to build a robust writing foundation through a logical and step-by-step approach to writing.
The first trimester will commence with learning to create a keyword outline from simple stories. Students will use these straightforward outlines along with story summary tools to practice the art of narration. In trimesters two and three we will utilize the previously acquired skills to begin writing paragraphs while incorporating quality verbs, adverbs, and adjectives into the students’ writing. Gradually, students will incorporate multiple references and invention enabling them to easily compose well-structured paragraphs.
